I ordered this Vexilar on Dec.21st and it was delivered to my house on the 24th. That was awesome!!! I have used it about 8x so far and I love it. It makes me fish longer when I know there are fish down below. It is actually hard to fish two lines when you are mesmerized by it. If you are going to buy a fish finder you do not need anything more then a 8SE. Waste of money if you do. The price was 296.00 brand new including delivery at Glen's army store in Grand Rapids,Mn. You will not find it cheaper. Will not ice fish with out it!! Easy to charge up also!!

I have a Vexilar and they are a must have, especially if you ice fish. There are a number of helpful features that the Vexilar possesses. First of all, you don't even have to drill a hole to see how deep a spot is, all you have to do is clear away the snow/slush from the ice, pour some water on the spot and put your transducer down. This makes for quick and convenient depth checking. The absolute beauty of the Vexilar is that it's not just a depth finder, you can actively see fish move as well as your bait. Fish and bait are represented by lines on the display. Light green lines are smaller fish (and your bait), yellow lines are intermediate size, and red lines are larger fish. The Vexilar is especially helpful in fishing for pan fish which stay suspended in water such as crappies. You can jig for these fish and watch them approach your bait. This lets you get yourself ready for a bite more quickly. You can even pull up on your line to see if there's any tension from the crappies when your bait line and a fish are even on the display, meaning they are at the same depth. This is especially helpful with crappies, who notoriously inhale bait sometimes and exhale it out without becoming hooked. The Vexilar also has a Gain control, which makes the display more or less bright. There are also many different depth settings to satisfy everything from small shallow lakes to deep lakes. Another helpful feature is the interference button. This button, when pushed, eliminates electronic interference from other fish finders, cameras, etc. I have also used an AquaVue, which is an underwater camera, and I would prefer the Vexilar any day because you can see the whole depth range, not just one level of depth. If you want to seriously supplement your fishing efforts I would purchase a Vexilar before you hit the ice this winter!

Sure you can ice fish with out one but it is like trying to run in the forrest with your eyes closed. Vexi (what I call mine) has been around for years, the advantage you have with this when icefishing is not even fair comparing to fishing without it. If you clear the snow off the ice and pour water on it the sonar will go through and you can see how deep the water is before you drill. You can see what depth the fish are at and see the fish strike your bait. The bigger the fish is you will see it on the sonar. Oh and you can see your bait too as you move it up and down. It will also work when there is no ice if you are vertical jigging. Pays for itself in 1 season. possibly 1 day. There are better models that do more stuff but this will do just fine. Good luck all.
